Self-adaptive behavior

property of an EA, in particular of specific types of variation operators, to adapt in an autonomous manner, i.e. without external control, to the local topology of the fitness landscape or the search space, respectively. The adaptation should behave in such a manner that certain defined or desired performance properties of the EA are realized (alternatives: externally controlled adaptation, e.g. 1/5-rule).
